Personal-property forms are tied to March 1

The Ste. Genevieve County assessor says personal-property assessment forms are due back to the county assessor by March 1.

In Ste. Genevieve County, personal-property tax starts with the assessor’s list. The assessor’s personal-property page says the office mails declaration forms to people and businesses that declared personal property the previous year. It also says people or businesses owning tangible personal property on January 1 are liable for that tax year, and forms are due back to the county assessor by March 1.

That is the step before a tax bill or paid receipt. If you moved, changed mailing address, bought or sold taxable personal property, or did not receive a notice, start with the assessor rather than waiting for the collector stage.

For vehicle owners, this assessment step can affect later plate-renewal paperwork.
