Daniel Boone's last years were spent near Marthasville
Daniel Boone spent his final years in the Femme Osage and Missouri River country and was originally buried near Marthasville, where a monument area marks the original grave site, anchoring the county's frontier history
Daniel Boone was a famous American frontiersman, an early explorer and settler. He spent his last years in the Missouri River country. When he died in 1820, he was first buried near Marthasville, in what is now Warren County. He was laid to rest next to his wife, Rebecca. A monument and the original grave site mark the place today. Years later, his remains were moved to Kentucky. That move was a big argument, and people still debate it. Warren County now feels like wine country and a busy stretch along Interstate 70 (I-70). But the Boone story reminds you that this was frontier land in Missouri’s early days. The tale gets retold a lot, and some versions add made-up details. So it is smart to trust historical-society records, not roadside signs. To learn more, you can check with the State Historical Society of Missouri.
