Personal property starts on the County assessment side

The St. Louis County Assessor handles personal property declarations and assessment records before the Collector turns the value into a tax bill.

In St. Louis County, vehicle and other personal property tax starts with assessment. The County Assessor is responsible for the annual assessment of personal property, declarations, non-assessment waivers, and the assessment roll. The Collector comes later, when assessed value becomes a bill and a receipt.

That split saves time. If the vehicle list, mailing address, or assessment looks wrong, start with the Assessor. If the question is whether a bill has been paid or a receipt can be printed, start with Revenue or the Collector.
