Mercer County plate renewal may need a tax receipt or waiver

Missouri vehicle renewal can require Mercer County tax proof, even when the actual plate work happens through DOR or a license office.

Plate renewal in Princeton can stall over county tax proof, not the sticker itself. Missouri vehicle renewal can require verification of personal property tax. The proof is usually a paid personal property tax receipt from the county of residence, or a statement of non-assessment when no taxable personal property was owed for that year.

Two-year registrations add one more wrinkle. They can require tax verification for the previous two years, so one saved receipt may not be enough.

Mercer County’s local split is at 802 E Main Street in Princeton, where the assessor and treasurer/ex-officio collector are listed. Paid receipts belong on the collector side. Non-assessment and roll questions belong on the assessor side. A driver who separates those two jobs before the renewal errand has a better chance of leaving with plates instead of a new list of county paperwork.
