Laclede County deed research starts with the Recorder, not the tax bill
The Laclede County Recorder records real-property documents and offers an online iRecord search, which is a different job from tax collection or assessment.
A tax bill can help you identify a parcel, but it is not the land record itself. In Laclede County, deed and document research starts with the Recorder of Deeds. The Recorder says the office records and files documents affecting real property or personal property, subdivision plats, federal and state tax liens, and other written instruments.
The county also has an iRecord online search for Laclede County Recorder records. That is useful when you are checking whether a deed, lien, plat, or other recorded document exists before you call or visit the office.
For a buyer or landowner, keep the office lanes clear. The assessor helps with value and assessment records. The collector helps with tax bills and receipts. The recorder is where recorded documents live.
