The Records Center is Jasper County's local-history front door
Jasper County's Records Center in Carthage preserves local historical materials and helps researchers find county and southwest Missouri records.
Carthage has a county records front door for family and local-history work. The Jasper County Archives and Records Center preserves history, culture, and county activity from Jasper County and southwest Missouri.
The collection is broad enough to help a search get past loose web results. It includes books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, newspapers, cemetery records, probate records, tax records, rural school records, and subject files. Some records still remain with the office where they began, so the Records Center is not a replacement for every current county transaction.
That distinction helps a researcher ask the right question. Local history leads, old maps, cemetery clues, rural school material, and archival files belong with the Records Center. Current certificates, deeds, permits, and active office records may belong with the recorder, health department, or another county office.
