Greene County value appeals move through the BOE

The Greene County Board of Equalization is the formal local appeal forum for real and personal property assessment disputes.

A Greene County tax bill can send a property owner to the wrong counter if the problem is really value. Payment, receipts, and delinquent taxes belong with the Collector. A dispute over real estate or personal property assessment moves through the assessor and the Board of Equalization.

The BOE is Greene County’s formal local appeal forum. It is an independent board, and it comes into play when an informal conversation with the Assessor does not settle a value or classification concern. At the hearing, the Assessor’s Office presents evidence for the assessed value, and the taxpayer can bring evidence for a different value.

For a Springfield homeowner, business owner, or vehicle owner, the early work is evidence: photos, comparable information, records, or other material that explains the value you believe is right. A receipt problem can wait for the Collector’s window. A value appeal needs the BOE process and its deadlines.
