Pleasant Hill's business district sits where rail meets trail
Pleasant Hill's historic business district connects the old Missouri Pacific Depot, downtown buildings, and the Rock Island Spur of the Katy Trail.
Pleasant Hill’s county-page value is not only that the Rock Island Spur reaches town. The city’s visitor page describes a historic business district within a few blocks of the Rock Island Spur of the Katy Trail, with 50 historic buildings and the 1903 Missouri Pacific Depot.
Missouri State Parks also hosts a Pleasant Hill historic-resource survey that treats the city’s older buildings and districts as preservation resources. Together, those sources make the downtown district a durable way to read the town.
For readers, the helpful idea is simple: Pleasant Hill is a Cass County trail town with a railroad-built commercial center. That is different from the newer north-county growth story around Raymore and Belton.
