Buchanan County personal property tax payments need exact handling

Buchanan County's Collector page warns taxpayers to send the exact personal and real estate tax amount, which matters before receipts and plate paperwork.

A license-plate errand in Buchanan County can get tangled up with an old tax payment. The Collector allows personal and real estate taxes to be paid with one check, but the total has to be exact. A payment for the wrong amount cannot be accepted.

That small math check helps later. Missouri plate renewal may call for a paid personal property tax receipt or a statement of non-assessment, so a returned or mismatched payment can follow you into the license office. Match the bill, account or parcel, tax year, and amount due while the paperwork is still in front of you. If the payment covers both real estate and personal property, add the lines once more before it leaves your hands.
