Barry County tax receipts are searchable before a plate renewal

Barry County Collector's online personal property search gives residents a place to look for tax receipts and statements before a license-office trip.

A Barry County plate renewal can come down to one receipt. Before heading to the license office, look at the Collector’s personal property search, receipts, and statements. The search asks for the account number printed on the tax statement, so keep that paper nearby if you have it.

The office split is the part that trips people up. A paid property tax receipt comes from the county Collector. A waiver or statement of non-assessment comes from the Assessor when you did not own or possess taxable personal property on January 1.

If you paid and only need proof, start with the Barry County Collector’s search or office. If you were never assessed, or the vehicle is missing from the roll, start with the Assessor. The same renewal counter may ask for either document, but the county errands are not the same.
