Arrow Rock preserves the Boonslick and Santa Fe Trail story
Arrow Rock is a state historic site and National Historic Landmark village that anchors Saline County to the Boonslick region, the Santa Fe Trail, and painter George Caleb Bingham.
Arrow Rock sits on the Missouri River bluffs in Saline County. It is kept as a state historic site, which is a place the state protects and explains. It is also an old village. The town is part of the “Boone’s Lick Country,” the area where early settlers came. It is tied to the Santa Fe Trail, an old route west. The painter George Caleb Bingham lived here, and his home is part of the site. In the early-to-mid 1800s, the town was a busy spot where the river and the trail met. For you, it is the best place in the county to see early settlement history. Missouri State Parks runs the site and explains its story, including the harder parts of frontier and river history. The best move is to check the Missouri State Parks site for current hours, programs, and what is open, and to trust their explanation as the official one.
