KCI gives Platte County a city-run airport layer

Kansas City International Airport sits in Platte County, but the airport counter is not a Platte County counter. Airport operations run through the Kansas City Aviation Department, the same city department tied to Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport.

That local-government layer can trip people up around KCI. A nearby land record, tax account, or county assessment question may still be a Platte County matter. A terminal, airline, parking, ground-transportation, or airport-operations question belongs with Kansas City Aviation or FlyKC.

Businesses and nearby residents should also slow down before assuming a permit or tax rule from the county label alone. The airport area carries city and county geography at the same time. The clean split is to name the job first: county record, city aviation operation, traveler question, or local business question. Once the job is named, the right public office is much easier to find.
