Phelps County vehicle tags depend on the right tax paper
For Phelps County drivers, Missouri plate renewal may require a paid county personal-property tax receipt or a waiver.
Rolla drivers can get all the way to plate-renewal time and still be missing the one paper the license office wants. For Missouri tags, the proof usually comes from the county personal-property tax trail: a paid receipt, or a waiver such as a certificate of no tax due or statement of non-assessment.
The county of residence matters. If you lived in Phelps County on January 1 for the tax year in question, the Phelps County paper trail is the one to sort out. If you moved from another Missouri county, the old county may still be the place that proves what happened on that January 1 date.
Do not treat any recent tax document as good enough. The license office is looking for the right county and the right year. Before the renewal errand, line up the personal-property assessment, paid receipt, or waiver so the tag question does not turn into a second trip.
