Northern Missouri
Long Branch State Park is the county's lake-recreation anchor
Long Branch State Park on Long Branch Lake, just west of Macon, is the main public water-recreation spot in an otherwise farm-dominated county.
Long Branch State Park sits on Long Branch Lake, just west of the city of Macon. It is the county’s main public spot for water fun. You can go boating, swimming, fishing, and camping here. The setting is open prairie next to the lake. The lake is a reservoir built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A reservoir is a man-made lake. So two groups are in charge. The Corps of Engineers handles the water and the lake itself. The state park runs the day-use areas and campsites along the shore. Most of Macon County is farm fields and pasture, so this lake is the easy place to spend a day on the water. Before you go, check Missouri State Parks for park facilities, camping, and any seasonal notices. Check the Missouri Department of Conservation for fishing rules.
