Personal-property lists start with the assessor in January

Holt County's assessor page says personal-property assessment lists are mailed in January and due back by March 1 without penalty.

January is when Holt County personal-property paperwork starts to matter. Taxable real and personal property values begin with the assessor, with January 1 as the assessment date. Personal-property assessment lists go out in the first week of January.

March 1 is the date to circle. A completed list returned by then avoids the local late-list penalty. The assessor also needs updates when someone moves into or out of the county, changes an address, or changes a name.

This is the part that can save a plate-renewal errand later. The collector handles payment after taxes are billed. Assessment corrections, missing forms, tax waivers, and statements of nonassessment all belong with the assessor rather than the collector.
