Jamesport Community Lake has a local-fundraising origin

Jamesport Community Lake is a Daviess County fishing spot with a local origin story: residents raised the money before MDC accepted and developed the lake.

Jamesport Community Lake is a small detail that makes Daviess County feel specific. The Missouri Department of Conservation says the lake offers fishing in Daviess County, about one mile north of Jamesport on Highway 190 and two miles west on Route RA.

The local texture is in the origin. MDC says Jamesport residents raised funds to buy the property, and the Conservation Department agreed to accept ownership and develop the lake. The lake was built in 1956, and MDC says it was the first community lake built under that kind of agreement.

For a reader, this is both a place note and a useful routing note. Jamesport Community Lake is MDC-managed public land, so fishing, access, and area rules should be checked with MDC rather than guessed from local custom.
