Lead Mine Conservation Area is a Dallas County public-land anchor

Lead Mine Conservation Area gives northern Dallas County a large MDC landscape tied to the Niangua River and Jakes Creek.

Lead Mine Conservation Area keeps northern Dallas County from reading only as courthouse-and-highway country. MDC places the area in northeastern Dallas County, east of Tunas and northeast of Buffalo. The agency lists the area at 7,760.7 acres and says it includes about two miles of Niangua River frontage plus a 3.5-mile stretch of Jakes Creek.

That matters for visitors and landowners because this is a large, managed public landscape, not a town park. MDC notes separate southwest and northeast entrances and says there is no vehicle access from the west side of the area to the east side.

Before a trip, check the MDC area page and map rather than assuming one driveway reaches every trail, river access, campsite, or range feature.
