Huzzah Conservation Area ties Crawford County to three Ozark waters

MDC describes Huzzah Conservation Area as a Crawford County public-land area shaped by the Meramec River plus Huzzah and Courtois creeks.

Huzzah Conservation Area gives Crawford County a very specific Ozark identity. MDC says the area is in Crawford County and consists of 6,225 acres.

The official page names the Meramec River, Huzzah Creek, and Courtois Creek as defining water features. It also says the Ozark Trail transects most of the area, and that the Narrows is a hogback ridge dividing Huzzah and Courtois creeks.

There is history in the same landscape. MDC says the remains of the Scotia Furnace and Iron Works are on the property. For a hiker, floater, hunter, or local reader, Huzzah is not just “public land.” It is a river-and-ironworks place with official access rules to check before going.
