Carter County septic permits run through the health center
Carter County Health Center says it regulates local onsite sewage work and reviews the permit packet before a construction permit is issued.
In Carter County, a rural home site or septic repair should start with the local health source. Carter County Health Center says it regulates onsite sewage in the county, but it does not design septic systems.
The health center says the state onsite sewage permit is part of the process. After the permit, soil report, and owner or installer packet arrive, county health staff review the packet and visit the site before a construction permit is issued.
Missouri DHSS adds the statewide caution: work should not begin until a permit has been issued or an exemption has been confirmed by the proper authority. For a buyer or landowner, ask about the soil report, permit office, and existing system records before assuming a wooded Ozark parcel is ready for a house.
